Passed the 12th standard (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board or university on the cut-off date stated in the notification.
The age band differs by post: Stenographer Grade C is 18 to 30 years, and Stenographer Grade D is 18 to 27 years. For Stenographer Grade D posts in the Border Roads Organisation, only male candidates are eligible.

Register once with your name, date of birth and contact details, and keep the registration number and password for all SSC exams.

Log in, open the Stenographer notice, complete the form and upload the photograph and signature to the stated specifications.
Pay the fee and submit
Pay online where applicable or claim the exemption, then submit and save the printout and receipt.
Grade C posts sit at the higher Level 6 and Grade D at Level 4. Confirm the exact entry pay from the official notification.

No. A 12th-standard pass is the minimum qualification for both Grade C and Grade D. What you do need is shorthand speed for the qualifying skill test.
A dictation at 100 words per minute for Grade C and 80 words per minute for Grade D, taken over 10 minutes and then transcribed on a computer within the allotted time.
No. The stenography skill test is qualifying only. The merit is decided by your Computer Based Test score; you must simply meet the skill-test standard.
0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer in the CBT, where every question carries 1 mark. Unanswered questions are not penalised.
