Staff Selection Commission Selection Posts Examination (Phase XIV) is conducted by Staff Selection Commission. Selection runs through 3 stages: Computer Based Examination (level-wise), Skill Test, Typing or Data Entry Test (where applicable), Document Verification.

Sit the level-wise Computer Based Examination for the level of the post you applied for.
Clear any qualifying skill test, typing test or data entry test that a particular post requires.
Attend Document Verification, where original certificates are checked.
Final selection for each post follows the CBT merit, normalised across shifts, subject to verification.

Eligibility

Depends on the level of the post: Matriculation (Class 10) for matriculation-level posts, Higher Secondary (Class 12) for higher-secondary-level posts, and a Bachelor's degree for graduation-level posts.

A single online form lets you apply for posts at more than one level if you meet the qualification for each. Some posts add subject or experience requirements listed against the post in the notice.

Age

18 to 30 years as on the cut-off date stated in the notification, which was 1 January 2026 for this cycle.

100 questions for 200 marks in 60 minutes, with a 15-minute clock on each of the four sections.
A separate CBT is held for each qualification level (Matriculation, Higher Secondary and Graduation); the pattern is the same, but the difficulty is pitched to the level of the post.
There is no interview. Selection is essentially on the CBT score, normalised across shifts.

How to apply

Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on ssc.gov.in
SSC uses a single OTR profile across all its exams. Register once with your name, date of birth, an ID and contact details, and keep the registration number and password.
Apply for posts by category number
Each post has a category number in the notice. Log in, select the posts you are eligible for across levels, and complete the form for each with the required details.
Pay the fee and submit
A single fee covers the application (with exemptions for women and reserved categories). Pay online where applicable and submit, then save the printout and payment receipt.

Because Selection Post covers many different posts across ministries, the pay level and basic pay depend on the specific post. Entry basic pay can range from about Rs 18,000 at Level 1 to well over Rs 47,000 at higher levels. Confirm the level for a post from the notice.

How to prepare for SSC Selection Post

The syllabus overlaps heavily with SSC CGL, CHSL and MTS, so the same reasoning, quantitative, English and general-awareness practice pays off across all of them.
With only 60 minutes for 100 questions and a 15-minute sectional clock, speed and accuracy matter more than depth; drill quick methods and avoid getting stuck.
0.50 negative marking is heavy for a two-mark question, so leave questions you are unsure of rather than guessing blindly.
General Awareness is the fastest-scoring section if your static general knowledge and current affairs notes are strong; revise them weekly.

What is SSC Selection Post?

It is an annual, phase-wise recruitment by the Staff Selection Commission for a wide range of Group B and Group C posts in central ministries and departments, filled at Matriculation, Higher Secondary and Graduation levels through a single computer-based test.

Is there one exam or separate exams per level?

How much is deducted for a wrong answer?

0.50 marks are deducted for each wrong answer, out of the two marks a question carries. Unanswered questions carry no penalty.

Why is competition so high?

Because it accepts 10th, 12th and graduate candidates for posts across many departments in one window, Phase XIV drew a very large number of applications — reported from about 11 lakh to nearly 29 lakh across levels — for roughly 3,000 posts.
