Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical and Electrical) Examination is conducted by Staff Selection Commission. Selection runs through 3 stages: Paper I (Computer Based Examination), Paper II (Computer Based Examination), Document Verification.

  1. Sit Paper I, the objective Computer Based Examination that screens candidates.
  2. Qualify for and sit Paper II on your chosen engineering discipline.
  3. Attend Document Verification; there is no interview.
  4. Final selection follows the combined Paper I and Paper II merit, post and category wise.

Eligibility

Educational qualification

A Degree or a three-year Diploma in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognised university, institute or board, as prescribed post-wise for each participating organisation.

The exact qualifying engineering stream and whether a diploma or a degree is required is set post-wise in the notice. The upper age limit is 30 years for most posts and 32 years for some (such as CPWD and CWC).

How to apply

  1. Complete One-Time Registration on ssc.gov.in

    Register once with your personal, educational and contact details on the SSC OTR portal, and keep the login safe for future SSC exams.

  2. Fill the JE application form

    Choose your engineering stream and preferred organisations, and upload the photograph and signature to the stated specifications.

  3. Pay the fee and submit

    Pay the application fee online where applicable, submit the form and save the printout for reference.

How to prepare for SSC JE

  • General Engineering carries 100 of 200 marks in Paper I and all of Paper II, so your core discipline decides selection — revise it deeply from your diploma or degree notes.
  • Build General Intelligence and Reasoning and General Awareness to clear Paper I comfortably; these are scoring with steady practice.
  • Practise previous years' technical questions for your stream to learn the standard and recurring topics.
  • Attempt full objective papers under time to handle 200 questions in 2 hours, and mind the negative marking in both papers.

Frequently asked questions

Can a diploma holder apply for SSC JE?

Yes. A three-year diploma in the relevant engineering stream (Civil, Mechanical or Electrical) is accepted for many posts. Whether a diploma or a degree is required is specified post-wise in the notification.

Is there an interview in SSC JE?

No. Selection is based only on Paper I and Paper II, followed by document verification. There is no interview.

Do I attempt all three engineering streams in the paper?

No. You attempt only the General Engineering part (Civil & Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical) that you select at application time, based on your qualification.

How much is deducted for a wrong answer?

0.25 marks per wrong answer in Paper I. In Paper II, 1 mark is deducted per wrong answer since each question carries 3 marks.
