How to apply

  1. Open the RBI opportunities portal

RBI advertises on its dedicated opportunities site. Open the Assistant advertisement and read the Regional Office list before registering.

  2. Choose your Regional Office

You apply to one office and must be proficient in the official language of that state. Vacancy counts differ considerably between offices.

  3. Register and upload your documents

Complete registration, then upload photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration to the specified dimensions.

  4. Declare your degree percentage accurately

The 50% aggregate requirement is verified against your mark-sheets, so compute the aggregate the way the advertisement defines it.

  5. Pay the fee and save the receipt

Pay online, then download the e-receipt and application printout.

Documents to keep ready

  • Valid photo identity proof such as Aadhaar, PAN, passport, driving licence or voter ID

What the job involves

  • Clerical and support work within a Regional Office department rather than at a retail branch counter.
  • Processing and maintaining records in currency management, banking operations or administration.
  • Handling government banking transactions and public grievance correspondence.
  • Assisting with note examination and currency chest operations, depending on the department.
  • Promotion to Assistant Manager and into Grade A through internal examinations and seniority.

How to prepare for RBI Assistant

  • All five Main sections carry 40 marks each, so there is no section worth sacrificing. Balanced preparation beats specialisation here more than in most banking exams.
  • Computer Knowledge is a full 40 marks and is almost pure recall. It is the fastest section to secure and is worth locking down first.
  • The section clocks in the Main paper are tight, from 20 minutes for Computer Knowledge to 30 for the aptitude sections. Practise each at its own pace rather than as part of a long paper.
  • General Awareness leans towards the RBI itself: its history, functions and monetary policy tools. Read the RBI's own site alongside general current affairs.
  • Confirm your degree aggregate meets 50% before applying. This is checked at verification and is not something a good score can rescue.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an interview for RBI Assistant?

No. Selection is by the Main examination, followed by a qualifying Language Proficiency Test. The Main examination therefore decides the merit list on its own.

Is there a minimum percentage requirement?

Yes, at least 50% in your bachelor's degree, relaxed to a pass for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. IBPS and SBI clerical recruitment have no such threshold, so this is a common cause of rejection for candidates moving across from those exams.

How does the Main examination differ from IBPS Clerk?

RBI's Main paper has five sections of 40 marks each, all weighted equally, taken in 135 minutes. IBPS Clerk has four sections with Reasoning weighted at 60 marks, taken in 160 minutes. RBI also adds a Computer Knowledge section as a full 40-mark paper rather than folding it into Reasoning.

What happens at the Language Proficiency Test?

You are tested in the official language of the state where your Regional Office is located. It is qualifying rather than scored, but failing it cancels your candidature even after a strong Main examination performance.

Can I apply to more than one Regional Office?

No. One office per cycle, and your posting is at that office. Compare vacancy counts across offices before deciding, since a small office can carry a much higher cut-off.
