Eligibility

Educational qualification

A pass in class 10, that is SSC or matriculation, from a board recognised in the state or union territory where the Regional Office applied to is located.

This post carries an upper qualification bar as well as a lower one: the advertisement has excluded candidates holding a graduate degree in recent cycles, since the role is intended for candidates with school-level qualifications. The exact wording of that restriction has varied, so read it in the current advertisement before applying. Candidates must also be able to read, write and speak the local language of the state concerned.

How to apply

  1. Check the qualification bar in both directions

You need a class 10 pass, but the advertisement has also excluded candidates holding higher qualifications in recent cycles. Read that clause carefully before paying the fee, since it is the most common reason applications are rejected here.

  2. Open the RBI opportunities portal

RBI advertises on its dedicated opportunities site rather than the main home page.

  3. Choose your Regional Office

You must have passed class 10 from a board in the state where the office is located, and you must know the local language.

  4. Register and upload your documents

Upload photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration to the specified dimensions.

  5. Pay the fee and save the receipt

Pay online, then download the e-receipt and application printout.

Documents to keep ready

  • Valid photo identity proof such as Aadhaar, PAN, passport, driving licence or voter ID
  • Class 10 mark-sheet and pass certificate from a board in the applied state
  • Proof of local language proficiency, where available
  • Caste or EWS certificate in the prescribed format, where applicable
  • PwBD certificate issued by the competent authority, where applicable
  • Recent passport-size photograph, signature, thumb impression and handwritten declaration as uploaded

What the job involves

  • General office support within a Regional Office: handling files, records and internal despatch.
  • Assisting departmental staff with routine administrative tasks.
  • Operating office equipment such as photocopiers and franking machines.
  • Attending to visitors and internal messenger duties.
  • Eligibility to appear for internal examinations that allow promotion to the Assistant cadre over time.

How to prepare for RBI Office Attendant

  • The paper is school level, so accuracy decides the outcome rather than technique. With a quarter-mark penalty and a small vacancy count, a careless wrong answer costs more than a skipped question.
  • 90 composite minutes for 120 questions is comfortable by banking standards. Use the time to check rather than to attempt more.
  • General Awareness is the section where school-level candidates can gain most quickly, particularly basic RBI and banking terminology.
  • Prepare for the Language Proficiency Test from the start if you are applying to a state whose language you speak but do not write.
  • Verify the qualification restriction before you spend months preparing. Candidates who complete a degree during the cycle have been ruled ineligible in the past.

Frequently asked questions

Can a graduate apply for RBI Office Attendant?

Recent advertisements have barred candidates holding a graduate degree, because the post is meant for school-qualified candidates. The precise wording has changed between cycles, so check the current advertisement rather than assuming either way.

Is there an interview?

No. A single 120-mark online test decides the merit list, followed by a qualifying Language Proficiency Test.

Do I have to be from the state I apply to?

In effect yes. You must have passed class 10 from a board in that state or union territory and be able to read, write and speak the local language, which is tested separately.

What level are the questions pitched at?

School level across all four sections. The competition comes from the number of applicants against a small vacancy count rather than from difficulty.

Can I be promoted from this post?

Yes. Office Attendants can appear for internal examinations that open a path into the Assistant cadre and beyond, which is a large part of why the post attracts so many applicants.
