In each, solve for x and y and give the relation: I. x² − 64 = 0 II. y² + 5y − 6 = 0
Solution
The roots are x = 8, -8 and y = -6, 1. Comparing every x with every y gives "no fixed relation".
Profit and loss · solved example
An article costing Rs 400 is sold at a profit of 25%. Find the selling price.
Solution
Profit is 25% of 400 = 100, so the selling price is Rs 500.
Compound interest · solved example
Find the compound interest on Rs 8000 at 5% per annum for 2 years, compounded annually.
Solution
Amount = 8000(1+5/100)² = 8820. Compound interest = 8820 − 8000 = 820.
Permutations and combinations · solved example
In how many ways can 3 people be chosen from a group of 6?
Solution
This is 6C3 = 6!/(3!×3!) = 20.

Yes. SBI PO deducts one fourth of a mark for each wrong answer, Quantitative Aptitude included, so unsure guesses cost you. One fourth of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for a wrong answer. Questions left blank carry no penalty.
