Indian Coast Guard Yantrik (Electrical / Mechanical / Electronics) — Coast Guard Enrolled Personnel Test (CGEPT) is conducted by Indian Coast Guard (Ministry of Defence). Selection runs through 3 stages: Stage I — Computer Based Test, Stage II — Assessment Test, Physical Fitness Test and initial medical, Final medical examination.

  1. Sit the Stage I Computer Based Test and pass Section I and your technical section separately.
  2. Clear the qualifying Stage II assessment test, Physical Fitness Test, document verification and initial medical.
  3. Pass the final medical examination.
  4. Final merit is prepared all-India, discipline-wise and category-wise, on the Stage I score subject to qualifying all later stages.

Eligibility

Educational qualification

Open toITI / Diploma

Passed Class 10 from a COBSE-recognised board and a Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics or Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering of 3 or 4 years' duration approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Recruitment under the CGEPT for Yantrik is for male candidates. An alternative route accepts Class 10 and 12 with a 2 or 3 year AICTE-approved diploma in the same disciplines; confirm from the notification.

18 to 22 years as on As fixed by each batch notification (for the 01/26 batch, candidates born between 01 March 2004 and 01 March 2008).

  • Section I (common) carries 60 marks at Class 10 level; the technical section carries 50 marks at diploma level in your engineering discipline (Electrical — Section III, Electronics — Section IV, or Mechanical — Section V).
  • You must pass Section I and your technical section separately: about 30 and 20 marks respectively for General/EWS/OBC (27 and 17 for SC/ST).
  • The per-subject split within Section I shown here is indicative; the exact composition is fixed by the notification. The paper is bilingual (English and Hindi), except the English section.

Stage 2: Stage II — Assessment Test, Physical Fitness Test and initial medical

  2. Fill the CGEPT application form

    Enter your Class 10 and diploma details, choose your discipline and centre, and upload the photograph and signature as specified.

    Pay the application fee online where applicable, submit the form and save the printout for reference.

What the job involves

  • Operate and maintain the engineering, electrical and electronic equipment aboard Coast Guard ships and shore units.
  • Carry out fault-finding, repair and upkeep of machinery as a technical sailor.
  • Support maritime security, search and rescue and pollution-response operations.

How to prepare for Coast Guard Yantrik

  • Your diploma discipline is decisive — the 50-mark technical section (Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical) carries a separate cut-off, so revise your core subjects thoroughly.
  • Clear Section I comfortably: Class 10 Maths, Science, English, Reasoning and GK are scoring and also carry their own cut-off.
  • There is no negative marking, so attempt every question.
  • Begin Physical Fitness Test training early: the 1.6 km run in 7 minutes with push-ups and squat-ups needs weeks of practice.

Frequently asked questions

Who can apply for Coast Guard Yantrik?

Male candidates who have passed Class 10 and hold an AICTE-approved diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics or Telecommunication engineering, aged 18 to 22 (with category relaxations).

How is Yantrik different from Navik (General Duty)?

Yantrik needs an engineering diploma and tests a diploma-level technical section, while Navik (GD) needs Class 12 with Maths and Physics and tests a Class 12 Maths and Physics section. Both share the common Section I.

Is there negative marking?

No. There is no negative marking, but you must clear Section I and your technical section separately.

Is the Yantrik merit list state-wise?

No. Unlike Navik, the Yantrik merit list is prepared all-India, discipline-wise and category-wise.
