Direct-entry recruitment by the BSF Water Wing for SI, Head Constable and Constable (Crew) posts on inland waterways, decided by physical tests, a bilingual written exam, trade tests and medical examination.
Border Security Force Water Wing Direct Entry Exam 2024 (Group B & C) is conducted by Border Security Force. Selection runs through 5 stages: Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Written Examination (HC / Constable paper), Trade Test and Skill Assessment, Document Verification, Detailed Medical Examination.

Post-wise: SI (Master) and SI (Engine Driver) require Class 12 (10+2) plus the relevant inland-waterway certificate from a Central/State Inland Water Transport Authority or Mercantile Marine Department — 2nd-class Master for SI (Master), 1st-class Engine Driver for SI (Engine Driver). HC (Master) and HC (Engine Driver) require matriculation plus Serang or 2nd-class Engine Driver certificate respectively. HC (Workshop) trades require matriculation plus ITI in the relevant trade. Constable (Crew) requires matriculation, one year of boat-operation experience and unaided deep-water swimming.
Only unmarried male Indian citizens were eligible in the 2024 notification. Maritime certificates must be valid and issued by the prescribed authority. Constable (Crew) candidates must upload the swimming undertaking in Annexure F.
20 to 28 years as on 01 July 2024, the closing date for online applications (post-wise limits: SI Master/Engine Driver 22–28 years; HC and Constable (Crew) 20–25 years; SI Workshop 20–25 years).

Apply for Water Wing Direct Entry Exam 2024
Select the post, fill the application form, upload photograph, signature, maritime certificates and the Constable (Crew) swimming undertaking where required.

100 objective questions in two hours: 35 General Knowledge and Awareness, 35 Reasoning Ability and 30 Numerical Ability, each carrying one mark with no negative marking.
SI (Master), SI (Engine Driver) and SI (Workshop) candidates face 25 questions each in General Knowledge, Reasoning, Numerical Ability and Trade Awareness — 100 questions for 100 marks in two hours.
Applications closed in July 2024. PST/PET was held in March–April 2025 and the shortlist for the written exam was published in July 2025. The written examination was scheduled around early September 2026; the result was awaited as of 19 September 2026.
