Eligibility

Educational qualification

A graduation degree in any discipline with at least 60% marks (55% for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates), together with a professional qualification such as CA, CMA (ICWA), CFA, or an MBA/PGDM in Banking or Finance, and relevant post-qualification experience.

This is a lateral, experienced-officer recruitment, not a fresher exam. The required experience rises with the scale — broadly a few years for MMGS-II, more for MMGS-III, and the most for SMGS-IV, with credit or commercial-banking experience preferred. Fresher generalist Probationary Officer seats at Bank of India are filled through the IBPS PO common exam, not through this stream.

Age

25 to 45 years as on the cut-off date in the notification; the band varies by scale — roughly 25-32 for MMGS-II, 28-38 for MMGS-III and 32-45 for SMGS-IV.

Upper age relaxation

  • SC and ST+5 years
  • OBC (non-creamy layer)+3 years
  • Persons with Benchmark Disability+10 years

A candidate must be one of the following:

  • A citizen of India
  • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 intending to settle permanently
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries intending to settle permanently in India

How to prepare for Bank of India Credit Officer

  • Because ranking is on Professional Knowledge, build genuine depth in credit appraisal, working-capital assessment and RBI/Basel norms rather than relying on general awareness.
  • Treat the English section as a threshold: practise reading comprehension and grammar just enough to clear it comfortably.
  • Use your own work experience — real credit and compliance situations map directly to many questions.
  • Revise recent RBI circulars and priority-sector-lending changes, as these are frequently tested.
  • Prepare structured answers for the interview on credit decisions, risk and your experience, since it carries about 30% of the merit.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bank of India Credit Officer the same as 'Bank of India PO'?

Not exactly. Bank of India's own direct officer recruitment is the Credit Officer (General Banking Officer) stream, for experienced professionals. Fresher generalist Probationary Officer posts at Bank of India are filled through the IBPS PO common exam instead.

Do I need work experience?

Yes. This is a lateral recruitment. You need a professional qualification and post-qualification experience that increases with the scale — MMGS-II, MMGS-III or SMGS-IV.

Is the English section counted in the merit?

No. English is qualifying only. You must clear it, but ranking is decided by the Professional Knowledge score.

What does the Professional Knowledge section cover?

Credit and banking topics: credit appraisal, working-capital assessment, financial analysis, RBI guidelines, Basel norms, KYC/AML, priority sector lending and NPA management.

How is the final merit decided?

Typically 70% weight to the online test (Professional Knowledge) and 30% to the interview, subject to qualifying each stage.
