Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission — Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) is conducted by Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission. Selection runs through 2 stages: Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET), Post-specific Main Examination / Skill or Physical Test.

  1. Complete the One-Time Registration and apply for the PET on upsssc.gov.in.
  2. Sit the 100-mark Preliminary Eligibility Test; your normalised score is valid for three years.
  3. Use your PET score to apply for Group C recruitments as they are advertised.
  4. Clear the post's main examination or skill/physical test, then document verification, for final selection.

Educational qualification

Open toClass 10 passClass 12 pass

Passed Class 10 (High School) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. This is the minimum to sit the PET; individual Group C posts may require Class 12 or a graduate qualification at the main-exam stage.

The PET itself needs only a Class 10 pass, but it is the gateway for many Class 12 and graduate-level posts. Age and qualification of the final post apply when you use your PET score to apply.

  • 100 objective questions for 100 marks in 2 hours, offline (OMR), bilingual in Hindi and English.
  • The score is valid for three years and is used to shortlist you for the main exam or skill test of the post you apply to.

How to apply

  1. Complete One-Time Registration on upsssc.gov.in

    Register once on the UPSSSC OTR portal with your personal and educational details, and keep the registration number safe for all UPSSSC exams.

  2. Fill the PET application form

    Log in with your OTR, complete the PET form and upload the photograph and signature to the stated specifications.

  3. Pay the fee and submit

    Pay the application fee online, submit the form before 1 September 2026 and save the printout.

  • Class 12 mark-sheet where the target post requires it
  • Domicile certificate of Uttar Pradesh where required

      How to prepare for UPSSSC PET

      • Weight your effort by marks: Current Affairs, General Awareness, and the passage, graph and table sections carry 10 marks each — master data interpretation and daily current affairs.
      • The academic sections are at NCERT secondary and senior-secondary standard, so revise history, polity, geography, economy and science from NCERT.
      • Practise unseen Hindi passages and graph/table sets under time, since 30 of the 100 marks come from these.
      • Mind the 0.25 negative marking and remember the score is valid three years — a strong PET opens every UPSSSC Group C door.

      Frequently asked questions

      Is the PET a recruitment or just a qualifying test?

      It is a qualifying screening test. Clearing the PET does not give you a job; it makes you eligible to apply for UPSSSC Group C recruitments, where a main exam or skill test decides selection.

      How long is my PET score valid?

      The PET score is valid for three years from the date the result is declared.

      What is the minimum qualification for the PET?

      A Class 10 (High School) pass is the minimum to sit the PET. The final post you apply for may require Class 12 or graduation.

      Is there negative marking?

      Yes. One-fourth (0.25) of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer, so avoid blind guessing.
