Solution

The amount after 2 years is 8000 x 1.10 x 1.10 = 8000 x 1.21 = 9680. The compound interest is 9680 - 8000 = 1680. For 2 years there is a shortcut: interest equals principal times (r + r + r squared / 100) / 100, which also gives 1680.
