How to prepare for IIFCL Assistant Manager

  • Test II is the exam. Half the written marks come from project finance, corporate banking, treasury, risk, governance and the financial system, so a working knowledge of infrastructure finance is worth more than aptitude drilling here.
  • Because a wrong Test II answer costs half a mark (a quarter of two marks), guess only when you can eliminate confidently.
  • The interview carries 60% of the final weight, so prepare your work experience, your stream's technical basics and current infrastructure-finance issues thoroughly.
  • Keep the financial-sector current affairs current: Test I has a dedicated 25-mark section on it, and it feeds the interview too.
  • Confirm your experience documents early, since eligibility turns on the two-year officer-cadre requirement and these are scrutinised.

Frequently asked questions

Can a fresher apply for IIFCL Assistant Manager?

Generally no. IIFCL Assistant Manager requires at least two years of post-qualification experience in the officer cadre, so it is aimed at working professionals rather than fresh graduates, unlike most bank PO exams.

Why does Test II matter so much?

Test II is professional domain knowledge, 50 questions of two marks each for 100 marks, which is half the written exam. Project finance, treasury, risk and the financial system decide your written score more than the aptitude of Test I.

How is the final merit decided?

The online exam and the interview are combined in a 40:60 ratio, so the 100-mark interview carries more weight than the written exam. You must clear each stage separately.

Is there negative marking?

Yes, one fourth of the marks assigned to a question. Since Test II questions are worth two marks each, a wrong answer there costs half a mark.
