Indian Army Agniveer Recruitment under the Agnipath Scheme (Common Entrance Examination) is conducted by Indian Army, Directorate General of Recruiting. Selection runs through 3 stages: Online Common Entrance Examination (CEE) — General Duty paper, Physical Fitness and Measurement Test (Recruitment Rally), Medical Examination.

  1. Register and apply online for up to two Agniveer categories you are eligible for.
  2. Sit the online Common Entrance Examination (Phase I) for each category applied.
  3. Attend the Recruitment Rally for the physical fitness and measurement test (Phase II).
  4. Pass the medical examination.
  5. Enrolment follows the combined merit of the exam and the rally, category-wise.

Eligibility

Educational qualification

Depends on the category. Agniveer General Duty needs a Class 10 pass with 45% aggregate and 33% in each subject. Agniveer Technical needs Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English (or an equivalent NSQF route). Agniveer Clerk/Store Keeper Technical needs Class 12 in any stream with 60% aggregate and 50% in each subject. Agniveer Tradesman needs a Class 10 or Class 8 pass depending on the trade.

Only unmarried candidates are eligible. Both men and women are recruited in eligible categories. Candidates may apply for up to two categories, subject to meeting each category's education and age conditions.

    • The General Duty paper shown here is 50 questions for 100 marks in 60 minutes.
    • Other categories have their own papers: Technical (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English), Clerk/Store Keeper (a two-part paper of 200 marks over 120 minutes, with a qualifying typing test), and Tradesman (General Knowledge, General Science, Maths and reasoning).
    • The paper is bilingual, in English and Hindi.
    • A minimum qualifying mark applies, and merit combines the CEE with the physical rally.

    Stage 2: Physical Fitness and Measurement Test (Recruitment Rally)

    • A 1.6 km run in grouped timing, beam (pull-ups), a 9-foot ditch and a zig-zag balance, scored by group and event.
    • Physical measurement of height, weight and chest against the standard for the category and region.

    2. Apply for your category or categories

      Choose the Agniveer category you are eligible for — up to two, with a separate form for each — and complete the application.

    3. Pay the fee and appear for the CEE

      Pay the examination fee, download the admit card and sit the online Common Entrance Examination at your allotted centre.

    Under the Agnipath scheme, the monthly package is about Rs 30,000 in the first year (with roughly Rs 21,000 in hand after 30% goes to the Agniveer Corpus Fund), rising to about Rs 40,000 by the fourth year. On completion of four years, a tax-free Seva Nidhi of about Rs 10.04 lakh is paid, and non-contributory life insurance cover of Rs 48 lakh applies during service.     How to prepare for Indian Army Agniveer

    • Pick the category that fits your qualification first — GD after Class 10, Technical or Clerk after Class 12 — and prepare for that paper's exact subjects.
    • The General Duty paper rewards fundamentals in general knowledge, science and maths; keep the level to Class 10 and build speed.
    • Start physical training months ahead: the 1.6 km run, pull-ups and the ditch need steady conditioning, not last-minute effort.
    • Watch your accuracy — the 0.5-mark penalty on a 2-mark question means loose guessing hurts.
    • Keep documents, domicile and character certificates ready, since the rally moves quickly once you clear the exam.

    Frequently asked questions

    Can I join as an Agniveer after Class 10?

    Yes. Agniveer General Duty needs a Class 10 pass (with the required marks), and some Tradesman trades accept Class 10 or even Class 8. Technical and Clerk/Store Keeper categories need a Class 12 pass.

    Is there negative marking in the CEE?

    Yes. In the General Duty paper, 0.5 marks are deducted for each wrong answer, where each question carries 2 marks. Unanswered questions are not penalised.

    What happens after four years as an Agniveer?

    Agniveers serve a four-year engagement and receive a tax-free Seva Nidhi package on completion. Up to 25% of a batch may be selected, on merit, for enrolment into the regular cadre.

    Can women apply?

    Yes, women are recruited as Agniveers in eligible categories. Only unmarried candidates within the age window may apply.
