For consecutive numbers the average is the middle number, so the middle one is 20 and the numbers are 18, 19, 20, 21, 22. The largest is 20 + 2 = 22.

Solution
54 km/h = 54 x 1000 / 3600 = 15 m/s. To pass a pole the train covers its own length, so time = 120 / 15 = 8 seconds.

What is 15% of 240?
Solution
15% of 240 = 15/100 x 240 = 36. A quick check: 10% is 24 and 5% is 12, and 24 + 12 = 36.
Compound interest · solved example
Find the compound interest on Rs 10,000 at 10% per annum for 2 years, compounded annually.
Solution
Amount = 10000 x (1.1)^2 = 10000 x 1.21 = 12100. Compound interest = 12100 - 10000 = 2100, which is more than the simple interest of 2000 because of interest on interest.
