SEMICON India 2026: from policy to production

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi — the summit runs 17–19 September 2026, its fifth edition, with 600+ companies, ~50,000 visitors and delegates from 52 countries. He virtually launched commercial production at CDIL Semiconductor, Mohali (discrete devices) and Suchi Semicon, Surat (packaging/OSAT), taking operational commercial ATMP units to five — alongside Micron, Kaynes and CG Semi — out of 12 approved under Semicon 1.0. The PM highlighted Semicon 2.0 funding expansion from USD 8 billion (Semicon 1.0) to USD 13.5 billion, supporting design, fabs, advanced packaging, R&D and talent; Suchi Semicon currently targets 3 lakh chips/day, scaling to 3 million/day over three years. Army Chief Gen Dhiraj Seth in Russia (16–18 September)

Chief of Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth is on an official visit to Russia from 16 to 18 September 2026 to strengthen defence partnership and military-to-military cooperation. On 17 September, he held talks with Col Gen Andrei Nikolayevich Mordvichev, Commander-in-Chief of Russian Land Forces, on training, capability development and operational cooperation, and visited the National Defence Control Centre in Moscow. The itinerary also includes St Petersburg — the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy — and interactions with senior Russian Ministry of Defence officials including Deputy Minister Vasily Sergeyevich Osmakov (defence industry and procurement).
