SSC GD Constable is the Staff Selection Commission’s matriculation-level recruitment for General Duty constables in the central armed police forces — one of the largest recruitments in the country. Success has two equal halves: a short written paper that decides the merit, and physical and medical stages that you must clear to be selected.
The structure, from the official pattern
Computer Based Examination — 80 questions, 160 marks, 60 minutes on a single clock.

A wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. The paper is available in English, Hindi and thirteen regional languages. After the CBE come the PET, PST and medical examination, all qualifying.
Where the exam is won
The CBE score alone decides the merit, so that is where preparation should concentrate, while the physical stages are gates to clear:
- Elementary Mathematics is matriculation level — number system, percentage, ratio, average, time-and-work and speed. Build a fast, error-free base with percentage, profit and averages and time, speed, distance and work.
- General Intelligence and Reasoning is straightforward — analogies, series, coding-decoding, blood relations and classification. Use coding-decoding and series and blood relations and direction sense.
- General Knowledge carries real weight — keep a short static-GK note and skim the last several months of current affairs, following general awareness for railway and SSC.
Respect the small negative marking, and the clock
The 0.25 penalty is small but adds up over eighty questions, so attempt mainly where you can eliminate options — the reasoning is in negative marking strategy. And because it is 80 questions in 60 minutes, pace is what most candidates struggle with, so rehearse the speed with timed mocks until it feels routine.

The PET run and the PST height and chest standards decide as many outcomes as the paper. Begin physical preparation alongside the written test, not after the result, so that clearing the CBE leaves you already fit for the run and the measurements rather than starting cold.
