Before you start

  • 100 questions in 60 minutes, split 30 in English Language, 35 in Numerical Ability and 35 in Reasoning Ability, with each section locked to its own clock — a full-length paper modelled on the Preliminary Examination.
  • Each section has its own timer; once a section’s time is over it locks and you cannot return to it, exactly as the real prelims is administered.
  • Each question carries one mark; one fourth of a mark is deducted for a wrong answer, and unanswered questions carry no penalty.
  • The difficulty is deliberately weighted towards moderate and hard (about 77 of 100) so the set stays useful on repeat attempts. Every question is original with a worked solution shown after you submit.

For decades, growth in national income was treated as an unquestioned good, a single number by which the health of a society could be judged. That faith has begun to erode. Gross domestic product counts the cost of cleaning up a disaster but not the value of a forest left standing; it rises when traffic jams burn more fuel, and stays silent on whether the fruits of growth reach the many or the few. Alternatives have been proposed, from measures of well-being to indices that dock points for inequality and environmental damage. None has yet dethroned GDP, partly because its very crudeness makes it simple to compare across countries. The deeper difficulty is that any measure encodes a judgement about what matters, and on that, societies do not agree.
