The New India Assurance Company Limited Administrative Officer (Scale I) is conducted by The New India Assurance Company Limited. Selection runs through 4 stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination (objective), Main Examination (descriptive), Interview.

Clear the Preliminary examination, which is a screening test and does not count towards the final merit.
Qualify the Main examination, which has an objective paper of 200 marks and a qualifying descriptive English paper of 30 marks.
Attend the interview for shortlisted candidates.
The final merit list combines the objective Main examination and the interview; the Preliminary examination and the descriptive paper are only qualifying.
Complete the pre-employment medical examination and document verification before appointment.

A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university for the Generalist post, with the minimum percentage stated in the notification. Specialist posts require a degree or professional qualification in the relevant discipline.

The most recent cycle asked for 60% at graduation for unreserved candidates and 55% for reserved. Specialist streams such as Automobile Engineer, IT, Actuarial, Company Secretary and Legal each have their own qualification, so read the post you are applying for carefully. Knowledge of the regional language of the state you opt for is required.

21 to 30 years as on the cut-off date stated in the official notification, which was 1 August in the most recent cycle.

Register on the NIACL careers portal
Open the Administrative Officer recruitment link on newindia.co.in, choose New Registration and enter your name, mobile number and email. Save the provisional registration number and password.
Upload your photograph and signature
Upload a recent photograph and signature, and a thumb impression and handwritten declaration if the notification asks for them, in the sizes and formats specified.
Complete the application form
Fill in personal details, the post, stream and state you are applying for, qualification, category and examination-centre preferences.
Pay the fee online
Pay by debit card, credit card, internet banking or UPI. Do not close the browser until the e-receipt is generated.
Save the e-receipt and application printout
Download both immediately. You will need the registration number and password again for the call letter and every later stage.

How to prepare for NIACL AO

The Preliminary examination is only a screen, but its 20-minute sectional clock still fails candidates. Practise each section as an isolated 20-minute block so no single section drags the others down.
The Main examination's General Awareness section rewards insurance and financial knowledge. Learn the basics of IRDAI, general-insurance terms and the financial-market regulators early, where NIACL candidates gain ground over banking-trained aspirants.
Because 0.25 negative marking applies, build accuracy before speed and review each mock for the questions you should have skipped.
Keep a single running note of current affairs from the previous year, weighted towards economy, insurance and government schemes.
Do not neglect the descriptive paper. It is qualifying and easy to leave until last, but a weak letter or essay under a 30-minute clock can end an otherwise strong candidature.

Is there negative marking in NIACL AO?

Yes. One fourth of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer in the objective Preliminary and Main examinations. Unanswered questions carry no penalty, so guard against blind guessing.

Do Preliminary examination marks count towards the final selection?

No. The Preliminary examination is only a screening test that shortlists candidates for the Main examination. The final merit list is built from the objective Main examination and the interview taken together.

Is knowledge of a regional language necessary?

Yes. NIACL expects you to be able to read, write and speak the regional language of the state or Union Territory you opt for, since Administrative Officers deal with local policyholders. Check the exact requirement in the notification.

What is the difference between Generalist and Specialist posts?

Generalists sit the standard four-section objective Main examination. Specialists, such as Legal, IT, Actuarial, Automobile Engineer and Company Secretary, sit an additional Professional Knowledge test and must hold the professional qualification for their stream.

What is the age limit for NIACL AO?

Between 21 and 30 years as on the cut-off date in the notification, with the usual relaxations of five years for SC and ST, three years for OBC and ten years for Persons with Benchmark Disability.
