ECGC Probationary Officer (Junior Management Grade Scale I) is conducted by ECGC Limited (Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India). Selection runs through 3 stages: Online Examination: Objective Test, Online Examination: Descriptive Paper (English), Interview.

Sit the online exam: an objective test with sectional timing, then a descriptive English paper.
Clear the minimum marks in each objective section and overall for the descriptive paper to be evaluated.
Get shortlisted for the interview on the combined objective and descriptive score.
Attend the interview, worth 60 marks.

A Bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 60% marks (55% for SC, ST and PwBD) from a recognised university.

A professional or postgraduate qualification such as MBA, PGDM, CA, CS or ICWA is often listed as preferred but is not mandatory. Confirm the exact requirement in the 2026 notification.

Open the Careers section on ecgc.in, choose the Probationary Officer advertisement and register with your name, email and mobile number. Save the registration number and password.
Fill the application
Complete the form with your education, category and personal details, and choose your examination centre and interview city.
Upload documents and pay the fee
Upload photograph, signature and any required documents, then pay the fee online or claim the exemption. Save the e-receipt and the application printout.

How to prepare for ECGC PO

The objective test is a large 200-question, sectionally timed paper, so speed matters. Practise with a per-section clock so you are not stranded in Quantitative Aptitude with the timer running out.
Bend your General Awareness towards banking, insurance, foreign trade and export credit, and learn what ECGC actually does; these come up in both the paper and the interview.
Do not neglect the descriptive paper. Practise an essay and a precis to the 40-minute limit, typed on a keyboard, since it is scored once you clear the objective cut-offs.
Because selection is 80:20 between exam and interview, a strong written score is the surest lever, but prepare a crisp self-introduction and export-credit basics for the interview too.

What does ECGC do, and how does that shape the exam?

ECGC is a government company that provides export-credit insurance to exporters and banks. Its General Awareness section leans towards banking, insurance, foreign trade and export credit, so build that alongside the usual current affairs.

Is the descriptive paper always evaluated?

No. Your descriptive English paper is checked only if you first clear the minimum marks in each objective section and overall. So the objective test is the gate; treat the descriptive paper as decisive only once you are past it.

How much does the interview matter?

The final merit is the online exam and the interview combined in an 80:20 ratio, and the interview has its own qualifying minimum (40% for General and EWS, 35% for reserved categories). It is important but the written exam carries most of the weight.

Is there negative marking?

Yes, one fourth of a mark for each wrong answer in the objective test. The descriptive paper has no negative marking.
