Solution

Pens sit inside markers, and markers inside inks, so every pen is an ink - conclusion I holds. Since all pens are inks, converting gives some inks are pens, so II holds too. Both follow.

Quantitative Aptitude · solved example

A bank disbursed retail loans across four quarters of a financial year as follows. Q1: Rupees 120 crore. Q2: Rupees 150 crore. Q3: Rupees 180 crore. Q4: Rupees 150 crore.

The disbursement in Q3 is what percent more than the disbursement in Q1?

Solution

The increase is 180 - 120 = 60 crore, and percentage more is always taken on the quantity being compared against, which is Q1. So 60/120 x 100 = 50%. The common error is dividing by 180 and choosing 33.33%, which answers a different question: by what percent Q1 is less than Q3.

A man walks 5 km towards the north, turns right and walks 3 km, then turns right again and walks 5 km. How far is he from his starting point and in which direction?

Solution

Facing north and turning right means facing east, and turning right again means facing south. So the movements are 5 km north, 3 km east, then 5 km south. The northward and southward legs cancel exactly, leaving only the 3 km eastward displacement. He is 3 km to the east of where he started.
