Solution
Statement I gives the side as 8, so the area is 64 square cm. Statement II gives the perimeter as 32, so the side is 32 / 4 = 8 and the area is again 64. Each statement alone is sufficient.

The marked price of an item is Rs 500 and a discount of 30% is given. Find the price paid.
Solution
Discount is 30% of 500 = 150, so the price paid is Rs 350.
