6 September 2026 is a defence and diplomacy day: for the first time, India and China held Corps Commander-level talks in the Eastern Sector, opening a new military-dialogue channel along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

First Eastern-Sector Corps Commander talks

The Indian and Chinese armies held their first Corps Commander-level meeting in the Eastern Sector on Sunday, 6 September 2026, at the Wacha-Damai Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) Point in Arunachal Pradesh — in the Kibithoo sector, India’s easternmost BPM. India was represented by Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, commander of the Army’s 3 Corps (Spear Corps). The talks are significant because such meetings had, since the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash, been held mainly at the Chushul-Moldo point in eastern Ladakh; using Wacha-Damai extends the mechanism beyond Ladakh. The meeting followed reported tension in the Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district and NSA Ajit Doval’s recent visit to China, after which the two sides agreed on an eight-point outcome including two additional BPMs and new hotlines. The wider context

The talks came days before India hosts the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi (11–13 September 2026), which Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend. Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth had recently reviewed operational preparedness at 3 Corps headquarters.

Why it matters for an exam: know the LAC as the de-facto India-China boundary, that Corps Commander talks were long anchored at Chushul-Moldo (Ladakh), and that BPMs are the designated points where the two armies meet — this is the first time the senior format moved to Arunachal Pradesh.
