5 September 2026 is Teachers’ Day — the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s second President and a renowned scholar. The day brought a national honours list and a new state welfare scheme.

National Teachers’ Awards 2026

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Teachers’ Awards 2026 on 82 educators at a function at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The group comprised 48 school teachers, 21 faculty from higher-education institutions and polytechnics, and 13 skill trainers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Each awardee receives a certificate of merit, a silver medal and ₹50,000. The school-teacher awards are run by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education, and the President called for making India the skill capital of the world and a knowledge superpower. Goa Ujjwala Scheme

The Goa government launched the Goa Ujjwala Scheme on 5 September 2026, giving eligible household LPG and PNG consumers ₹3,000 a year — the cost of three domestic cylinders — directly into their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said there is no income criterion, though only one connection per family is eligible; the Civil Supplies Department has set aside ₹100 crore. News On AIR
