IBPS PO | Main Examination (objective)

IBPS PO Main: full-length mock test 1

A full-length IBPS PO Main objective paper: 155 original questions across Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, General Awareness, English and Data Analysis, each section on its own clock with one-fourth negative marking and an on-screen calculator.

Before you start

  • Each section has its own clock and locks when its time is over. You cannot return to a section once its time ends.
  • This is a full-length Main objective paper modelled on the IBPS PO pattern: 155 questions in 180 minutes across Reasoning and Computer Aptitude (45, 60 minutes), General, Economy and Banking Awareness (40, 35 minutes), English Language (35, 40 minutes) and Data Analysis and Interpretation (35, 45 minutes).
  • In the real Main exam the four sections carry different weights totalling 200 marks. Here every question is scored as one mark, with one fourth deducted for a wrong answer, so your section-wise accuracy is easy to read.
  • An on-screen calculator is available in this paper, exactly as in the real Main examination.
  • Questions left unanswered carry no penalty, so a blind guess is only worth it after eliminating at least two options.
  • Marking a question for review does not submit it. A marked question with an answer selected is still evaluated.

Sample questions with worked solutions

A few questions from this test, with the answer key and the method behind it. The full set of 155 runs under a timer, and every solution is on the analysis screen once you submit.

Reasoning Ability · solved example

Seven people P, Q, R, S, T, U and V sit in a row facing north. V sits at the extreme left end and R at the extreme right end. P sits third from the left end. T sits immediately to the right of P. Q sits immediately to the right of T. U sits between Q and R. S is the only person between V and P.

Who sits at the extreme left end?

  • P
  • S
  • T
  • U
  • VCorrect

Solution

Number the seats 1 to 7 from the left. V is 1 and R is 7. P is 3, and S, the only person between V and P, is 2. T is immediately right of P, so T is 4, and Q immediately right of T is 5. U, between Q and R, is 6. The order is V, S, P, T, Q, U, R, so V is at the extreme left.

Banking Awareness · solved example

Where is the headquarters of the Reserve Bank of India located?

  • New Delhi
  • MumbaiCorrect
  • Kolkata
  • Chennai
  • Hyderabad

Solution

The RBI was established in 1935 with its central office in Kolkata, which was permanently moved to Mumbai in 1937. Its headquarters remains in Mumbai.

English Language · solved example

Central banks around the world increasingly rely on a framework known as inflation targeting. Under it, the bank publicly commits to keeping inflation near a stated number and adjusts interest rates to steer prices towards that goal. Supporters argue that a clear target anchors the expectations of businesses and households, so that a temporary shock does not spiral into a lasting rise in prices. Critics counter that a rigid focus on inflation can lead a bank to ignore unemployment and financial stability. In practice, most central banks treat the target as a guide rather than a strict rule, allowing themselves room to respond to a crisis.

Which of the following best expresses the central idea of the passage?

  • Inflation targeting has completely failed as a policy framework.
  • Inflation targeting is a widely used framework with clear merits and real criticisms, applied flexibly in practice.Correct
  • Central banks should abandon interest rates as a policy tool.
  • Unemployment is the only concern of modern central banks.
  • Inflation can never be controlled by any central bank.

Solution

The passage explains what inflation targeting is, gives the supporters' case and the critics' case, and notes that banks apply it as a flexible guide. Option B captures all three strands. The other options each overstate one part or contradict the passage.

Quantitative Aptitude · solved example

The table shows the number of accounts (in thousands) opened by a bank across four quarters for two products. Quarter : Savings : Current Q1 : 40 : 15 Q2 : 50 : 20 Q3 : 60 : 30 Q4 : 50 : 25

How many savings accounts (in thousands) were opened across all four quarters?

  • 180
  • 190
  • 200Correct
  • 210
  • 220

Solution

Add the savings column: 40 + 50 + 60 + 50 = 200 thousand. Pairing 40 with 60 to make 100 and 50 with 50 to make another 100 keeps the addition quick.

How many people sit between S and Q?

  • One
  • TwoCorrect
  • Three
  • Four
  • None

Solution

In the order V, S, P, T, Q, U, R, S is at seat 2 and Q at seat 5. Seats 3 and 4, held by P and T, lie between them, so two people sit between S and Q.

Because a blank carries no penalty, guessing only pays when you can eliminate at least two options. The analysis screen after the test shows you exactly where guessing cost you marks.
