Domestic PNG connections incentive scheme in effect
The Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic PNG Connections — launched 18 August 2026 and effective from 1 September 2026 — is now in its first performance period. As of 18 August 2026, India had 1.74 crore domestic PNG connections, served by PNGRB-authorised CGD entities across 309 Geographical Areas covering the entire mainland. Under the scheme, each incremental billed domestic connection above a GA-specific threshold earns the CGD entity 200 SCM of domestically produced APM gas (priced lower than imported LNG), run in two tranches over six months. The government expects the lower sourcing cost to cut the capital-expenditure payback period for a household connection from about 10 years to nearly 3 years, accelerating clean cooking-gas access. Indian Railways: August 2026 freight and connectivity
Indian Railways loaded 137.9 million tonnes of freight in August 2026, a 5.4% year-on-year rise from 130.9 million tonnes in August 2025; freight revenue grew 6.27%. Growth was driven by coal, iron ore, steel, fertilisers and containers; iron ore loading rose 12.1%, clinker 10.4%, domestic containers 9.2% and coal 6%. The network also regularised 14 Amrit Bharat services (total 86), carried 67.27 crore passengers (up from 64.43 crore in August 2025), and commissioned five new Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals — taking the cumulative total to 149.
